Quentin "Skwent" Askwith

In appearance a fairly typical Virginia Opossum, a bit on the small side and terribly unkempt, with mangy fur and hair matted into greasy sheaves. His right eye is murky red due to an eight-ball fracture (hyphema) from blunt force trauma in an auto accident, which also caused minor brain damage. He is functionally blind in this eye, but believes he is receiving visual messages from extra-planar entities, which he attempts to record in his wild, paint-flinging spasms. The doctors, of course, know his 'visions' are his brain's struggle to interpret the random signals from his damaged optic nerve. He compulsive wipes his hands off on the left side of his face, clogging the fur with dried paint and giving him the appearance of wearing a brightly colored mask.

Except when painting, Skwent is completely unable to focus or concentrate for any length of time, often forgetting to eat or bathe, and often gives the impression of listening intently to a conversation taking place a hundred miles away. It would be easy to dismiss him as merely insane, but on occasion some of his mumbled non sequiturs or fevered paintings turns out to correspond to a real-world event. Until after the fact, though, it's almost impossible to determine what is relevant and what is raving.

Before the accident - which may have been a deliberate attempt on his life - Quentin Askwith had a radically different personality. He was a dogged, detail oriented but unimaginative cryptanalyst, with the usual dull, and short tempered possum character. A low level cog in gov't machine. On the surface, not the obvious subject for an assassination attempt. But there are rumors he was on the verge of cracking the centuries-old mystery of a certain manuscript which might describe how to make an ancient, deadly super-weapon. This information may even now be locked in his pointy little head, distorted by his obsessions and delusions . . .

I was inspired directly by the crazy artist character in 9, but this isn't a 'furry version' of the character or anything like that. I just liked the general idea.

* Yep, he belongs in the 'Elliot' world.

Amazing back story. I've heard of cases like this regarding cognitive function and personality shifts after an accident. I find neuroplasticity to be a fascinating topic especially since I have a bit of first hand experience with it.

Yeah, I am very fascinated with how the mind functions.

>crazy artist character
it fits quite well with the idea, compared to the few real-life crazy artist stories I know. We had a local one by the name of "Ovartaci", if it interests you.

Again, I admire your hands and feet :)
