Description

A varg/nahual hybrid. Man, this guy has a whole backstory but I'm too tired to write it out right now.

Close up view can be seen here: [link]

Edit: ok, here's some of it. Varg and nahual are regional variations of "werewolves", with vargr coming from Nordic areas and nahual from S. America. "Vargr" meaning both wolf and outlaw, and should more properly be ulfhednar or hamrammr, but they picked the name themselves and I guess it just sounded cooler. Nahual/nagual is a generic mesoamerican term for shapeshifter, as close as I can get to what I intended, the Olmec "were-jaguar". They aren't actually wolves OR jaguars, they're humans with supercharged mitochondria that allow them to temporarily regress into a primitive, carnivorous simian form - the resemblance is pure convergence. The reason they look different is a combination of Bergmann's and Allen's laws (animals in cold environments tend to be bulkier and more heavily built, animals in warm regions tend to be more slender and long-limbed), plus the nahual have camo typical of ambush predators, etc, etc. Varg shade into the real ginormous ones that would be referred to as were-bears, and very much smaller, leaner types that might be called coyote or fox (American, East Asiatic), and African types that sort of resemble hyenas. But they're all the same critter, just as bulldogs and greyhounds are both dogs.

This guy is American, actually, and like a lot of us he's a mutt.

The anatomy looks a bit awkward, that's not *entirely* due to my lack of skills. Long torso without the typical human s-curve, proportionally short legs: vargr/nahual are quadruped so standing up like this isn't typical. It's done to look over things, or to intimidate.
