Megapnosaurus aka. Syntarsus by Viergacht Megapnosaurus aka. Syntarsus by Viergacht
An early Jurassic Coelophysid dinosaur found in South Africa and North America. It was originally called Syntarsus, but this name was already taken for a beetle.

I took the background photo at Rooi-Els, in South Africa. While we were there, I saw a cormorant sunning itself on a rock - that, and how prehistoric it looked with all the jagged rocks and animal prints in the sand inspired this.

Great image. I was looking at the model of one of these in the Iziko museum a few weeks ago. Nice size for a pet!

Perhaps you would find the 'Friends of the Museum' group an interesting thing to join. We do regular annual expeditions with Prof Roger Smith of the museum to assist his search for those very stem mammals / mammal like reptiles. This year we are off to the Karoo near Beaufort West.

We have a meeting at the museum this coming Wed 30th at 5:30 p.m. for a 6:00 p.m. start. Its a presentation on the construction of the Sir Louries Pass road by a civil engineer. He is going to follow up next month with a field trip to visit the old pass and discuss the geology. (Ordovician glacial out-wash deposits can be interesting :-)

There is parking in front of the museum at that time, turn in off the road onto the brick paving area that leads to the front steps of the museum. Ask the committee for Kathy and tell her you are a paleoartist and we can then meet!

We also have  trip coming up where we visit Wilderness and have a guided tour by a geologist who is studying the sea level changes over time.

Very nice. I used to hate the name Megapnosaurus, but now considering what it means, i find it very catchy. around this so called "big dead lizard", the only thing that would be big and dead would be whatever it decided to hunt down.

It was news to me that it had been renamed - it's such a classic 90's dinosaur.

Nice! Those rugged rocks do look prehistoric. Your Megapnosaurus also fits in well!

:D

I didn't use the particle "were" because it means "man," but a man+wolf+dinosaur would be something to see
